App lowdown: Stay Safe

Keep safe with self-defence app developed by students

A group of students from Cork have developed a self-defence app called 'Stay Safe' as part of the Young Social Innovators project.

The app acts as an alarm and sends an emergency text message to three pre-selected contacts, should the user find themselves in a dangerous or uncomfortable situation. The app is also loaded with self-defence and safety tips, along with contact information for relevant organisations.

The students behind the app recently won the silver prize award at the YSI Showcase awards.

The Stay Safe HD app is available from the iTunes App store and the Google Play Store too.
