Amazon launches Kindle Fire in bid to rival Apple’s iPad
Amazon, the world’s leading online retailer, has unveiled its rival to Apple’s iPad – the Kindle Fire.
The device is smaller than the iPad and costs less than half the price or €199 (€149).
It’s display screen is seven inches and it will run on Google’s Android software, the company said today.
Technology analysts believe the product is the biggest threat yet to Apple's dominance of the touchscreen tablet market.
The Kindle Fire, which doesn’t have an embedded microphone or camera, offers wi-fi connectivity.
It will also have access to the 11,000 films and TV shows and 17 million songs in the Amazon library.
