A healthy start for Aviva's iPhone app

THE Irish wing of insurance company Aviva has taken the plunge into the iPhone app market, launching "Health Mate" to support their health insurance division.
The app works as a traditional pedometer but factors in BMI and gender to give calorie burn, and also features maps of walking trails all over the country.
Four days into its lifetime, Health Mate was already the number one app in iTunes's Irish health and fitness store, and the number 15 app in the overall Irish store as a total of 6,270 "sessions" were logged. And Aviva is hopeful the numbers will increase.
"With mobile advertising due to start shortly the numbers are due to rise dramatically over the coming weeks, giving Aviva the opportunity to engage with consumers outside of their normal insurance requirements," a spokesman said.
