This UK initiative is calling on Irish startups to pitch for fast track at TechConnect Live
A UK-based initiative is offering Irish startups an opportunity to fast-track their business through investment, office space and a wide customer network.
Wayra UK, part of Telefónica Open Future, gives direct funding, acceleration and pre-acceleration services to selected start-ups - and will be is offering this potentially-life-changing opportunity at this year’s TechConnect Live at Dublin's RDS on May 31.
Six start-ups selected by the open programme will pitch their companies at the tech event, with the winners receiving prizes that could open up access for the companies to Wayra and Telefónica’s vast network of investors, coaches, mentors and customers.
Since its launch in 2012, Wayra UK start-ups have raised over $110m in third-party investment.
"Wayra has already invested in more than 30 Irish start-ups, one of which - Trustev - was ultimately bought by TransUnion for $44m," Gary Stewart, Director of Wayra UK and Telefónica Open Future_ UK, said.
"Indeed, quite a few of our most successful entrepreneurs have come from Ireland. Through this competition, I am confident that we will discover amazing Irish start-ups that we will help scale through Wayra."
The top prize offered is three months (Sep-Nov 2017) of pre-acceleration in Wayra UK’s London Academy, including free office space and access to Wayra’s best-in-class coaches and mentors, as well as to Telefónica’s network of partners and customers.
A fast track straight through into the final of the main Wayra UK Call in November 2017 is the second prize, an event in which companies are selected to join the main programme, which offers investment, office space and network access.
The third prize is an invitation to Wayra UK’s London Academy to be part of the cohort for the day, taking sessions that include masterclasses and 1:1s.
