Plans for new Dublin hotel

Planning permission has been sought by Dublin Loft Company Ltd, a vehicle controlled by Kelly, Mark and Andrew Cosgrave, for the development of a 175-bedroom hotel in Dublin's Smithfield.
Arranged over seven storeys, the proposed development at 6-11 Hendrick Street would extend to 60,000 sq ft and replace an existing 3,000 sq ft property at the site.
Meanwhile, the owners of the Herbert Park Hotel in Ballsbridge are seeking planning permission for a six-storey extension to the existing four-star hotel.
The proposed extension would have a total floor area of approximately 12,000 sq ft and consist of 32 additional bedrooms, bringing the hotel's overall room count to 164.
The submission of the two applications is timely given the shortage of hotel rooms in the capital.
Indeed, in 2016 Dublin will see the opening of just one new hotel - the 198-bedroom Holiday Inn Express at Findlater House on O'Connell Street.
Its introduction will see a net gain of just 16 additional hotel bedrooms for Dublin city, owing to the closure and demolition earlier this year of the 182-bedroom Clyde Court Hotel (formerly the Berkeley Court) in Dublin 4.
Coupled with increasing visitor numbers, the scarcity of hotel rooms saw Dublin emerge as Europe's third best performing hotel market in 2015 by RevPAR (Revenue Per Available Room) growth.
