Wedding or debs: Be careful if buying dresses online

Trying to save a few bob by buying your wedding, bridesmaid or debs dress online? Tread carefully.
The European Consumer Centre (ECC) has received a number of complaints about rogue dress websites this summer. The consumer watchdog is now warning consumers to be careful when buying dresses over the internet. It said problems often arose because the dress website was not based in the country in which it claimed to do business.
"In some cases, traders were found to be operating from outside the EU entirely," said a spokeswoman for the ECC. "This can lead to difficulties, as consumers often face long delays in delivery and may be left disappointed if their order does not arrive in time for the special occasion."
Furthermore, as European consumer rights do not apply to goods bought outside the EU, it can be hard to seek redress if you run into problems. Remember, a website which uses a domain address associated with a certain country may not necessarily be based there.
