Surviving the Recession

Personal loan

Sunday May 22 2011

Interest rates are only going one way. Up. If you take out a personal loan, make sure to fix it. Rates are fairly rotten but are better than they will be.

Ulster Bank's ufirst loans are the cheapest on the market, but you have to be a special ufirst customer to qualify. Borrowing €14,000 over four years for normal people, with quotes from www.bonkers.ie, total interest payment compared.

Best: NIB fixed loan €3,125.77 in interest over term

Avoid: Bank of Ireland variable loan €3,731.05

Saving: €605.28 over term of loan
