Many of us will be looking to alternatives to an expensive holiday abroad this year, so the news from Hotels.com last week that Ireland now has the cheapest room prices in Western Europe was most welcome.
There is some tremendous value if you're planning to holiday at home this year -- prices in Ireland fell 4 per cent last year, compared with a 2 per cent rise globally, so holidaying at home is all the more worthwhile.
