Visit an OPW Heritage Site for free
Next Wednesday being the first Wednesday of the month, you can visit all OPW-managed heritage sites for free. Tickets are allocated on a first come, first served basis so get there early to make sure you get entry. There are plenty of interesting sites to visit all year around, including Kilkenny Castle, Clonmacnoise (Offaly), The Rock of Cashel (Tipperary, pictured), John F Kennedy Arboretum (Wexford), and Glendalough Visitor Centre (Wicklow). Interestingly, many of the seasonal heritage sites (Tintern Abbey and Nenagh Castle for example) have now reopened since the beginning of April and subsequently are included in the list. You'll find more information on last-minute availability on their website www.irishlandmark.com and you might also be interested in their free weekend of learning in Portumna Castle from Saturday 7th-Sunday 8th of May next which includes two days of interactive talks on the history, maintenance, and repair of old buildings along with free demonstrations.
