Baking on a budget

As the final of the Great British Bake Off drew to a close last night, and TV3 get ready to air their Great Irish Bake Off over the next few months, you could be forgiven for thinking that the whole country has gone baking-mad. Baking itself is an inexpensive hobby, once you're prepared to put in the elbow grease, but if you have to buy various accessories then it can become quite costly. Dealz, the value shopping chain, have an excellent value offering of baking items priced at just €1.49. They range from spatulas and whisks, to weighing scales, edible glitter, baking trays, and even a celebration baking book. The products have been designed by baker and actor Jane Asher. The prices are almost too good to be believed so snap up the products now while you still can. More information in store, and on dealz.ie

Free hotel stay

Becoming a fan of a brand on Facebook can result in significant rewards. This is the case for fans of the "Select Hotels of Ireland" chain on the popular social networking site. Fans can snap up a second night B&B for free, running until this Sunday, by clicking on the offer button on the page. A normal booking price for one night B&B for two people sharing would be €99 per night at one of the hotels which are located nationwide. However, in this instance you can get a second night for free. Maybe a trip to the Dingle Skellig Hotel takes your fancy, or how about a spin to Belfast to the Malone Lodge Hotel? Raise a cup for cancer awareness

As October is Cancer Awareness Month you can expect to see plenty of pink-themed items on sale in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Barry's Tea Gold Blend 40s have turned pink to show support for the Irish Cancer Society. A 10c contribution will be made to the Irish Cancer Society from the sale of every pack. The promotional pink packets are available in Centra Stores only and are priced at €2, which is actually 15c cheaper on average than the normal red Gold Blend boxes. So you can pick up a bargain, and support a great charity at the same time. See Centra Stores nationwide for the distinctive pink boxes.
