Soros foundation to fight against evictions here
Billionaire investor George Soros's Open Society Foundation - best known for financial human rights campaigns in fledgling democracies - has recently announced it will start fighting repossession cases here.
"Essentially, we are aiming to apply a human rights approach in repossession cases," said Marguerite Angelari, senior attorney at the organisation.
"It looks pretty easy to get a repossession order in Ireland. Based on European Union law, it shouldn't be."
While Ms Angelari is based in Budapest, she has spent the past nine months focusing on courtrooms in Dublin.
Open Society will spend €100,000 working with Irish lawyers and funding finance seminars across the country highlighting what it says is a failure of Irish courts to apply European law in eviction cases.
