Only 920 homes were finished during January
Just 920 homes were completed in the first month of the year.
While it was the highest level since 2010, the new figures show that construction is still way below the level needed to meet demand.
Meanwhile, construction work started on just 627 units in the first month of the year, of which more than half - 383 - were in the Greater Dublin Area.
In other areas of high demand, most notably Cork and Galway cities, just 35 were started, despite a growing need for new homes.
Official projections suggest that some 25,000 units are needed annually to provide a 'normal' level of supply. Last year, just over 12,000 were delivered.
