Eight homes sell for over a million
Millionaires haven't gone away, you know. As many as eight people lashed out more than €1m on snapping up bargain houses in the last five weeks.
The top price was achieved by 16 Argyle Road, Herbert Park, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, and according to the property price register its sale was completed earlier this month for €3.05m.
Sherry FitzGerald's brochure described the seven bedroom detached house of 312.1sqm as a Crampton built home with elegant accommodation "making it the perfect choice for those wishing to acquire a superb family home in one of Dublin's most sought after and convenient locations."
The price was equally impressive considering that the property would benefit from modernisation.
In Waterford the Woodhouse Estate in Stradbally, is shown as having sold for €2m. At one time the Georgian house on about 400 acres had been asking €11.5m and more recently agents Savills were quoting €7.5m. for the whole property.
The €2m. price on the register is believed to relate solely to the residential element including the ten bedroom main house, a gate lodge and a Cromwellian courtyard.
King of pop Michael Jackson at one time considered buying it and its owners also included the FitzGeralds, Uniake and Beresford families.
On Dublin's northside, another house with show biz associations, Kelburne, 128 Howth Road, Clontarf, Dublin 3, sold for €1.55m.
The six bedroom period house which is set on 0.4 acres of landscaped grounds, had been visited by national and international show business figures when owned by a different family. Its agents Gunne had been asking €1.9m earlier in the year.
On the southside, a four bedroom detached house at Woodlawn, Golf Lane, Torquay Road, Foxrock, Dublin 18 sold for €1,595,000. Daphne Kaye was the agent for the 325.16sqm property.
Closer to the coast, 34 Killiney Heath, Killiney, a four-bedroom detached house of 316sqm was sold by Beirne and Wise for €1.3m.
