WHILE admitting that shares "scare me", broadcaster Mairead Farrell has made a few good investments in the past.
Working on both Today FM's 'Ray D'Arcy Show' and RTE's 'The Panel', she has a good amount to fall back on in the future.
"My first step on the property ladder was my best-ever buy, a two-bed apartment in Portmarnock we bought before we got married which we still have.
"That place has looked after us well," said Ms Farrell.
"The bank really owns it but we have a mortgage on a three bed spacious duplex which we bought two years ago as a second home.
"It was at the top end of our price range but looking back, we got a very good deal.
"It is in Glasnevin, the perfect location for us, close to city centre, work, family, shops and it's just lovely to walk around the Botanic Gardens on Sunday mornings. I took out an SSIA as a student but alas I only ever put "student" amounts into the account so it won't be worth much. It matures in April this year.
"It is not going to be much, so I will probably just spend it on a swanky weekend away here.
"I have a pension since I was 21. I was sent into a boardroom in work and a man in a suit told us all about it and before I knew what I was doing, I had sorted my pension."
However, she is prone to the odd spending excess.
"Hair cuts, colours and blow drys are my biggest waste of money. I spend over ?200 a month on them. (But I'm worth it!)."
"Apart from some dodgy outfits which over the years have probably cost a couple of hundred euro, there is nothing I really regret buying.
"We tend to get away three times a year. This summer we're off to West Cork, we'll have our first baby by then, I'm due in April, other than that we take a few city breaks in. "Last year we visited Barcelona, Athens, New York and West Cork - my favourite place.
"It is that old chestnut, if you book early and shop around, you can get really good value."
