Struggle of Irish people to pay bills revealed in Credit Union survey
HOUSEHOLD bills are a struggle for more than half of people a new survey has discovered.
One-in-four admitted that they had very little money left after household expenses, according to the study by the Irish League of Credit Unions published today.
The survey of 1,000 consumers found that 83pc fear that 2012 will be an even more difficult financial year than last year.
One third of respondents said they were likely to give up their private health insurance if there is a further hike in price.
Of those surveyed 70pc said that the amount they had left after paying essential bills had fallen in the last 12 months.
Almost 50pc of people said they were finding it difficult to save any mloney.
The increases in energy and fuel costs have affected 85pc of people and 8pc said it is impossible to pay their bills each month.
A total of 9pc said they were likely to give up private health insurance this year and 31pc said they would cease private cover if there is a price increase.
