ONE of the leading providers of wedding insurance has reported a 100pc rise in sales due to the fear that bridal shops and hotels may close down.
Blue Insurance said many couples were ending up stranded on the big day due to hotels going into liquidation.
The wedding industry in Ireland is worth more than €100m a year. There would be more than 25,000 weddings in 2010, with a new lower average cost of €23,000 per wedding, Ciaran Mulligan of the company said.
Blue Insurance, which trades as weddinginsurance.ie, offers insurance from €49.99, which covers cancellation up to €5,000 and/or rearrangement up to €3,750. Extra cover is also available for increased limits for supplier failure cover.
