Revenue warns of scam
Tuesday October 20 2009
THE Revenue Commissioners has warned taxpayers about a fraudulent email purporting to come from Revenue seeking personal information from taxpayers in connection with a tax refund.
The phishing email comes with the subject 'You are eligible to receive a tax refund of €320.50' and includes links to a convincing reproduction of the www.revenue.ie website. The email asks the recipient to submit personal details, including date of birth and debit/credit card details.
This email did not issue from Revenue.
The Revenue Commissioners says that it never sends emails which require customers to send personal information via email or pop-up windows.
