Me and my money: Michael Doyle

This celebrity hairdresser's best buy was his flat -- but he regrets those Gucci trainers

HAIRDRESSER to the stars Michael Doyle is frustrated when he remembers how his competitive edge cost him dearly.

"My biggest spending mistake was a pair of Gucci trainers. While shopping with a friend, we both spotted them, but I reached them first. I only ever wore them once and hated them for the loss of €400.

"My best-ever buy is my current apartment. I bought it from plans over the phone in five minutes. It is steeped in history, with Kilmainham Gaol and the Irish Museum of Modern Art just a short stroll away.

"Do I have a savings plan? I'm a hairdresser. My hands are heavily insured, however.

"I am ashamed to say I'm a smoker. It is a filthy habit, bad for my health and a total waste of money. I need to sort this out.

"My car comes in many colours, shapes and sizes and has a yellow light on top, so I know it is mine. I think it's called a taxi.

"I need to earn lots more money to allow me more time off. I love my work and have lots more on my list of things to achieve.

"If I could buy anything, regardless of price, it would be the health service. Everybody should be given an equal service and necessary treatment with dignity. It really makes my blood boil."
