Me and my money: Michael Doyle

€400 Gucci trainers are my big regret

HAIRDRESSER to the stars Michael Doyle is frustrated when he remembers how his competitive edge cost him dearly.

"My biggest spending mistake was a pair of Gucci trainers.

"Whilst shopping with a friend we both spotted them, but seeing as I am quietly competitive, I reached them first.

"I only ever wore them once and I have hated them for the loss of €400," he said.

"My best ever buy is my current apartment. I bought it from plans over the phone in five minutes.

"I am steeped in history with Kilmainham Gaol nearby and the Irish Museum of Modern Art also just a short stroll away.

"Do I have a savings plan? I'm a hairdresser. My hands are heavily insured.

"I am ashamed to say that I'm a smoker. It's a filthy habit, bad for my health and a total waste of money. I need to sort this out.

"My car comes in many colours, shapes and sizes and has a yellow light on top so that I know it is mine. I think it's called a taxi.

"I need to earn lots more money to allow me more time off. I love my work and have lots more on my list of things to achieve.

"If I could buy anything, regardless of price, it would be the health service.

"Life and dignity is slipping away due to costs. Everybody should be given an equal service and necessary treatment. It makes my blood boil."

Michael Doyle is creative director of Peter Mark.
