If you want fast broadband, what are the options? Obviously your choice will depend on where you live as well as price and value, but here are some of the fastest options, according to ComReg’s price comparison website, Callcosts.ie

Customers should bear in mind that most of these options require you to sign a minimum 12-month contract.

- DSL: Smart Telecom’s 24Mb package costs €74.39 a month. You can download up to 170Gb worth of data every month. It also has a 1:1 contention ratio, which means you are not sharing the service with anyone else.

The firm also offers 12Mb and 9Mb services costing €64.39 and €54.39 a month, respectively.

- Fixed wireless: Digiweb offers a 12Mb service costing €68.20 a month.

You can download up to 60Gb a month while the contention ratio is 36:1.

Imagine offers a 7Mb service costing €39.17 a month with an unlimited download limit and a 1:1 contention ratio.

- Cable: Besides the new fibre services starting in January (see main article), Chorus NTL offers a 20Mb service costing €50.50 a month. There is no download limit but the contention ratio is 17:1.
