AIB is ditching the Laser debit card in favour of the Visa debit card.
This means that National Irish Bank will be the only bank operating the Laser debit card.
AIB said yesterday the new Visa "contactless cards" would be issued to 1.4 million customers in the second half of this year. This will allow people to pay for up to €15 of goods at a time by waving the card in front of a machine rather than having to enter personal identification numbers.
AIB has not yet decided on the level of fees for the Visa cards.
