Go prepaid to ease debts

PEOPLE with stubborn credit card debts would be well advised to get rid of their card and choose a prepaid credit card instead, according to financial adviser Bob Quinn of the website myrecession.ie.

Mr Quinn also advises people with big card debts to open a credit union account if they do not already have one.

Make an appointment to see your local Citizens Advice Centre; there are often tax reliefs and supplements that we are entitled to but may not know about, he says.

Consumers are advised to contact the Money Advice and Budgeting Service for help with dealing with debt problems. He also says people should carry a notebook for six weeks and jot down every cent they spend.
