Further benefits for householders in energy utility war as Flogas cuts prices by 3pc
Householders are set to benefit after Flogas said it will reduce its standard gas unit price from the start of December.
The move is the latest shot in an energy price war that has seen reductions from a string of suppliers.
Flogas said it would cut prices for all its residential customers by 3pc, a move which will save the average customer €26 a year.
This is the second decrease announced by Flogas in the last 12 months.
Flogas managing director Mark Gannon said: “We are delighted to be in a position at this time to deliver further savings to all our residential customers before the winter bills arrive.”
Managing director of price comparison website Switcher.ie Eoin Clarke said the reduction represented the latest round in an energy price war.
“This cut by Flogas is the latest move in what many are calling an energy price war. In the last number of months we’ve also seen unit rate cuts from Bord Gáis Energy, Electric Ireland, PrePayPower and SSE Airtricity, as well as the launch of the biggest discount on the energy market from Energia.
“This means that customers can make huge savings by switching,” he said.
Mr Clarke said the average dual fuel customer can save €358 by switching from standard rates to the cheapest deals on the market.
“We’d encourage anyone who hasn’t made a switch in the last year to take advantage of the savings that can be made and do so now,” he said.
Householders will see the benefit when those winter bills start coming in, Mr Clarke said.
