Consumer guide to Britain

The European Consumer Centre (ECC) Ireland has launched a consumer guide to travelling to Britain.
The UK is a major tourist destination, with London alone receiving 26 million tourist visits last year, many of which originated from Ireland.
According to Caroline Curneen, PR and marketing manager of ECC Ireland: "Some 60pc of complaints requiring intervention from our office relate to traders based in the UK."
The number of complaints reflects that consumers can be vulnerable when abroad.
To address this issue, ECC Ireland has produced a leaflet about what to expect when travelling to Britain, on issues from car rental to what VAT rate is charged in restaurants.
The leaflet can be downloaded from www.eccireland.ie.
