Christmas is for giving, but check the date

Make sure to check expiry dates if you're giving gift cards

MORE than half of consumers plan to buy a gift voucher or card this Christmas according to the National Consumer Agency (NCA). Caveat emptor, however. The consumer watchdog is warning people to always check the expiry dates.

"In many cases, gift vouchers or cards have an expiry date and you may not be able to use them after that date," said the NCA.

"Consider buying vouchers that can be used at more than one shop. This will help minimise the risk of ending up with a gift voucher that you can't use, for instance, if a shop goes out of business."
