Have a safe Tripp

The summer holidays aren't far away now, and if you have a new suitcase to pack then you're off to a good start. The Tripp range of suitcases available exclusively from Debenhams are of excellent quality. I should know, I've had one for the past eight years, and despite the fact that it's used very frequently, it remains in excellent condition. There is a sale on selected Tripp products in Debenhams at the moment and if you're in the market for a well-made, sturdy suitcase, you can't go much wrong. The Tripp holiday collection in medium are reduced from €160 to €69 each, have a capacity of 69 litres, 4 wheels, and are made from 100% polypropylene. See Debenhams stores for more information or you can also order online from

Glasnevin Rising again

This coming weekend sees the true anniversary date of the 1916 rising and you might like to commemorate it by taking the 1916 Rising tour at Glasnevin Cemetery. The tour tells the story of the events that happened nearly a century ago that shaped Ireland today. Afternoon tours include a re-enactment of Patrick Pearse's oration of the surrender, and tickets include a visit to the excellent exhibitions at Glasnevin Cemetery Museum. Adult tickets are priced at €12 each, but the family ticket is great value, costing just €25 for two adults and two children. I highly recommend you book your date in advance online as they only take a limited number of participants on the day. See for availability.

Keep it country with Carlow hotel deal

Country music lovers will enjoy this mid-week special offer for stays starting from Tuesday 9th August to Thursday 11th August from the Woodford Dolmen Hotel Carlow. Priced at €119 per person sharing, it includes two nights B&B, two dinners, plus entry to a live country music show, and dancing on the two nights of the stay. That works out at just under €240 for a couple. Visit their website to check availability and/or call 059 91 42002 to make a reservation.

Bespoke bike gear

If you were a child of the 80s, then your bicycle wasn't fun unless it had plenty of spoke clips. There's no need to spend a fortune on them, you'll pick up a packet in your local Tiger Store this month for just €3. Available while stocks last, you'll be excused for wanting to put them on your own spokes. There are also other cycling-related accessories including a phone holder for your bike, a horn, basket, and a saddle. See for more information and see in store for details.

Lidl enter milky way

Lean protein is a buzz-term at the moment, and while you might assume that chicken breasts and turkey rashers are the way to go, protein milk is now an option that's worth considering. Lidl have an own-brand protein milk which retails for 99c per litre, making it nearly half the price of the nearest brand-name competitor. Containing 50g of protein per litre with 1.5% fat, it's an economical and natural option when compared to the more processed likes of whey protein powder. See the dairy section for availability (it tends to sell out early in the day as it's in that much demand). Visit to find your nearest store.
