Virtual reality becoming very real
As people consume more and more video content online, the popularity of the VR (virtual reality) headset is on the rise. One of the most well known VR sets is the recently released Samsung Gear VR which is exclusively for use with the Samsung Galaxy S6. There are two problems for the average consumer with this headset - first, the price (it retails at approximately €249.99), and the second issue is that you have to own a specific phone to use it with.
As an alternative, iCandy VR Goggles are said to be compatible with most smartphones and apparently you just put your phone into the extendible holder and use it to play 3D movies, games etc. It's a more affordable price, retailing at just under €30 (€29.99). Both are available on www.carphonewarehouse.ie.
Countdown to your big day
Penneys have added quite a selection of wedding/bridal-themed items to their collection this spring. These include some very pretty dresses and accessories suitable for flowergirls over the summer, priced between €14-€16 per dress. The dresses are sized age 2-7, so if you have a child who's on the petite size and a First Holy Communion coming up you may just bag a bargain. There's a 'Mr & Mrs' set of two pillowcases for €5, which might appeal to some. What caught our eye was this cute rustic countdown chalkboard costing €4. It's the kind of thoughtful gift that will (hopefully) keep a smile on a recipient's face every time they cross off a day. See Penneys stores nationwide for availability www.primark.com/en-ie.
Value moisturiser at Aldi
If you're looking for a tinted moisturiser on a budget, but aren't willing to compromise on your SPF protection then Aldi may be able to help. From Sunday (17 April), you can buy their own brand CC Cream from the Lacura range. The 'CC' in this instance stands for colour correcting. Available in two different shades, with SPF 15 UVA and UVB protection, it contains porcelain flower extract and vitamin B3. It will cost €3.99 for 50ml and we're told it offers flawless coverage and colour correction for a radiant complexion. For more see www.aldi.ie and stores nationwide from next Sunday.
Sleep on the dark side
With the days beginning to lengthen; the nighttime hours are getting shorter, and you might be finding it more difficult to get to sleep (or even stay asleep). If you haven't already considered investing in a decent set of blackout blinds or curtains, you may want to do so before long. This set from Heatons is priced at €25, and is available in both red and cream at the same price.
Heatons are about to launch a new-look website but in the meantime you can find a list of all their stores on www.heatonstores.com and see in stores for availability.
