Jack Coen-Doyle (18) from Rathmines is gearing up to study Science at Trinity College Dublin - and has already figured out a formula for saving money.

"After starting college next week, I plan to continue to live at home to save money. Having taken the summer off, I'm also hoping to get a part-time job while studying. Obviously, going to college isn't cheap, especially in Dublin.

"So for the past few months I've been trying to get into the habit of living frugally - practising cheap recipes, shopping at Lidl and cycling into town instead of taking the bus.

"Meanwhile, I always keep an eye out for any good student deals like a burrito and drink for €6.50 at Tolteca or 10 per cent off at Topman. Getting my student card should help make my money go further. Hopefully, I won't end up living on beans on toast for the next four years!"
