URBANAUT €143.99

THIS high-end helmet gives great protection and has strong fastenings. Designed for the urban cyclist, it also offers excellent visibility at night due to its reflectors and a flashing LED light so other road users will see you coming, and going, in the dark. While its air vents can be closed to stop rain from getting in, some users believe this also offers poor ventilation. On the plus side, it can also be used as a ski or snowboarding helmet.

GIRO TRANSFER €42.99

This lightweight sporty helmet (it weighs just 261g) gives good protection and has good ventilation with 20 air vents. There is also an insect screen. Unlike the Urbanaut it doesn't have great visibility at night, but you should never be relying just on a helmet for others to spot you. While the fastenings are strong, some users complained of the straps being uncomfortable as they twisted. It comes in a range of colours.

BELL MUNI €64.99

THIS lightweight helmet is designed for urban cyclists and promises super visibility.

Like the others, it gives good protection and good shock protection if you have an accident.

While its night-time visibility is excellent (and day-time vision clear) the night lights can push against the back of your head. Cyclists felt this made it uncomfortable.

Some also felt it should be easier to adjust. However, the ventilation is excellent and it has a sunvisor and an insect screen.
