Microsoft tops Top 250 Exporters list
According to the Irish Exporters Association, Microsoft is Ireland’s biggest exporter with an turnover of €13.7bn, showing a jump of 37% from the tech company’s figures last year.
The latest Top 250 Exporters in Ireland and Northern Ireland survey reveal that technology and pharmaceutical firms are leaders among the country's exporters.
With an export turnover of €12.45bn, Google landed the second place on the list, followed by pharmaceutical firm Johnson & Johnson with a turnover worth €10.5bn.
Of the top 20 exporters listed in the report, ten could be attributed to the information and communications technology sector, with competition from the pharmaceutical industry which had seven of its firms on the forefront of the list.
An total export rise of 12% on the same period last year solidifies Ireland's position as the second biggest exporter of computer and IT services in the world.
Other home grown firms proving their high position in the export list include paper and packaging producer Smurfit Kappa – fifth overall with a turnover of €7.35bn – and Kerry Group, the largest exporter of food and drink products at €5.69bn turnover.
