Mary Curtis has stepped down as Head of Channel at UTV Ireland.
Curtis was Head of TV at RTE before she left to set up the new channel in 2013.
Speaking today, Ms Curtis said she was “proud” of what she had accomplished at UTV Ireland.
“I was delighted to have the opportunity to be part of this new chapter in Irish television,” she said.
“I am very proud of what we have achieved. While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with UTV Ireland, it was always my intention to review my position after the channel’s first year on air.
“It has been an exciting and challenging year for the team and I, and we have succeeded in attracting more than 2.3m viewers every week, which is a tremendous achievement for a new television channel,” she added.
It is understood Ms Curtis will leave her position in early February.
Sources at the station said they were “shocked” to see her go.
“She was a great boss and she’ll be sorely missed,” an insider said.
John McCann, Group Chief Executive, UTV Media, wished Ms Curtis well.
"Mary’s television credentials and senior management experience are second-to-none. We all appreciate her huge contribution to the channel and she will be very much missed by the team here,” he said.
The broadcaster said managing director of UTV Television, Michael Wilson, will continue to oversee the management team.
