RTE's Miriam O'Callaghan to join most influential women in Irish media for forum

The weekend celebrates the seaside town’s links to of the country’s best known women writers, the late journalist Mary Cummins who was born in Ballybunion and Maeve Binchy, who spent holidays there.

RTE star Miriam O’Callaghan will join some of the most influential women in Irish media on a weekend that celebrates the achievement of women in the industry.

Ballybunion, Co Kerry hosts its second Women in Media event from April 11 to 13, with a packed programme that includes symposiums, debates, music and a gala dinner on the Saturday night.

Other special guests include former Irish Times editor Geraldine Kennedy, RTE Primetime’s Katie Hannon and the Irish Independent’s own legal editor Dearbhail McDonald.

The Irish Independent’s Public Affairs Editor and local man, Shane Phelan, will be one of only two male speakers at the female-focussed weekend.

Other guests include MEP and former agricultural journalist Mairead McGuinness and Radio One reporter Evelyn O’Rourke who recently published a book, “Dear Ross’ that recounts her treatment for breast cancer while pregnant with her second child.
