RTÉ facing another loss as Malone looks set to join TV3 as director of content
RTÉ could be facing a fresh casualty as another of the station's executives looks set to jump ship.
Channel controller of RTÉ2, Bill Malone, is believed to be joining rival station TV3 as its new director of content. The news comes shortly after managing director of RTÉ Television, Glen Killane, announced he would be departing the station to join Eir TV.
Mr Killane's departure is considered a huge loss to the organisation; he was extremely popular with staff and was heavily involved in RTÉ's landmark 1916 centenary coverage.
If Waterford native Mr Malone joins TV3's ranks, he will take over Lynda McQuaid's former role.
Ms McQuaid stepped down as director of content in February, less than 12 months after taking up the post.
Mr Malone has acted as channel controller for RTÉ2 for the past three years.
A former commissioning editor, he has been behind some successful RTÉ2 programmes including 'Damo & Ivor'.
He also green-lighted 'The Voice of Ireland'.
Both RTÉ and TV3 have declined to comment on the rumours.
However, TV3 told the Irish Independent it would announce its new director "in the next week or two".
Mr Malone is on holidays and was unavailable to comment last night.
