The online advertising spend in Ireland is expected to grow by as much as 200% over the coming year, according to a new survey of Irish companies.

Total online spending for 2007 represents 5% of the marketing spend but this figure is set to exceed the ?200m mark and could reach ?270m by the end of 2009.

Nearly 90% of companies identified the online sector as a growing part of the marketing mix, while the next highest growth sector, specified by 48% of respondents, is mobile marketing.

'This level of growth in digital marketing comes as no real surprise', said Dr Clare McAndrew of Results International which carried out the survey.
