Mogul to marry model: Murdoch (84) announces engagement to Hall (59)
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and model Jerry Hall have announced they are getting married after a whirlwind four-month romance.
Mr Murdoch, executive chairman of News Corporation, revealed his engagement to the actress and former supermodel in 'The Times', one of the 84-year-old media mogul's newspapers.
The newspaper said he got engaged to the 59-year-old Texan - a former girlfriend of Mick Jagger and Bryan Ferry - at the weekend in Los Angeles.
The couple were pictured beaming for photographers as they attended the 73rd Golden Globe Awards gala before news of the engagement was made public.
"They have loved these past months together, are thrilled to be getting married and excited about their future," a spokesman for the Murdoch family said.
"Mr Rupert Murdoch, father of Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, James, Grace and Chloe Murdoch, and Miss Jerry Hall, mother of Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel Jagger, are delighted to announce their engagement," the announcement on the Births, Marriages and Deaths page said.
'The Times' said the couple had been introducing their families in recent months and went on holiday with some of their 10 children on a yacht in the Caribbean.
The pair were introduced in Australia late last summer by one of Mr Murdoch's sisters and a niece, Penny Fowler.
They went public with their relationship in October when they attended the Rugby World Cup final together at Twickenham in London.
Australian Mr Murdoch has wed three times before, while it will be Ms Hall's first official marriage, although she had a 22-year relationship with Mr Jagger, during which time they had four children.
Mr Murdoch, who has six children, was divorced from Wendi Deng (46), in 2013. Mr Murdoch was also married twice before, first to Patricia Booker, a flight attendant from Melbourne, and then to Scottish journalist Anna Torv.
Mr Murdoch and Ms Hall follow a host of stars in using 'The Times' register section to announce their nuptials. 'Sherlock' star Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter put a notice in the paper in November 2014 and were married three months later.
Other celebrities to have revealed their engagements on the newspaper's Births, Marriages and Deaths page include actor Eddie Redmayne to publicist Hannah Bagshawe, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell to Formula One team principal Christian Horner and comedian David Mitchell to presenter Victoria Coren.
