Irish Independent winners - both at home and abroad
Irish Independent writers Jason O'Brien and Vincent Hogan were among a host of INM journalists to win prestigious accolades at the NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards.
Independent.ie Deputy Editor Jason O'Brien won the 'Best Foreign Coverage' award for the second time for his on-the-ground coverage in the Irish Independent of the earthquake in Nepal and the outbreak of Ebola in north Africa.
Irish Independent sports writer Vincent Hogan won 'Sports Story of the Year' for his exclusive interview and analysis on the real story behind Billy Walsh's departure from the Irish boxing team.
Irish Independent Editor Fionnán Sheahan said the awards were "due recognition for two journalists who are highly regarded in their respective fields for their excellence".
INM newspapers won 11 awards in total. The 'Herald' was the popular winner of the 'Best Front Page' for its remarkable coverage of the Regency Hotel attack, where reporter Robin Schiller and photographer Colin O'Riordan were eyewitnesses to the gangland attack which shocked the nation.
Three awards were won by the 'Sunday Independent' and the 'Sunday World' won five awards.
'Journalist of the Year' was won by Michael Clifford, of the 'Irish Examiner'.
