Irish Independent shortlisted for international media awards for their provincial rugby initiatives
The Irish Independent has been shortlisted for a renowned international media award for their provincial rugby initiatives.
Some 190 newspapers from 38 countries submitted a total of 578 entries to the INMA awards which celebrate best ideas in media sales and marketing.
The entries for the 80th annual sales and marketing competition were then subjected to a rigorous adjudication process in February. The judging panel consisted of some 33 executives from 15 countries representing the world of media and marketing.
Today, it was announced that the Irish Independent has made to the final 98 entries overall.
They have been shortlisted to the final six in the category 'Best Idea to Grow Single-Copy Sales'. The title has been shortlisted alongside two entries from the APN Australian Regional Media, Venezuelan title 'Diario Panorama', German newspaper 'Bild' and Norwegian title 'VG'.
The Irish Independent's submission centred on the provincial rugby supplements initiative.
The Irish Independent are official partners to Leinster, Connacht and Munster Rugby.
Every Friday, regional supplements are available within the newspaper for respective fans and have helped increase circulation and advertising revenue.
As part of the adjudication process, the INMA also looked at different aspects of the initiative including the Irish Independent's presence in the provincial stadia, activation on match days and their key initiatives with other sponsors such as Bank of Ireland and their joint 'Sponsor for a Day' competition.
The overall winners will be announced at the conclusion of the INMA World Congress on Tuesday, May 12th.
“The INMA Awards represent a snapshot of the creativity, passion, and soul of the news media industry,” said Earl J. Wilkinson, executive director and CEO of INMA. “Finalists announced today have demonstrated a world-class ability to communicate their value proposition in fast-changing times.”
Marketing Director at INM Geoff Lyons said: "We are proud partners of Provincial Rugby in Ireland and it is very pleasing to see that our work in activating our sponsorships with Connacht, Leinster and Munster Rugby has been recognised on the International stage."
