INM's Rae named to global media board
The Editor-in-Chief of Independent News and Media (INM), Stephen Rae, has been appointed to the board of the World Editors Forum (WEF).
The forum represents 3,000 news and technology organisations in 120 countries.
Its board is made up of senior leaders at media groups including La Stampa, Toronto Star, Dainik Jagran (India), Singapore Press Holdings, Times Media Ltd, Hurriyet, the Street.com, Suddeutsche Zeitung, Zero Hora (Brazil), VG (Norway) and the International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ).
"Stephen joins the board of the World Editors Forum at a critical time," WEF executive director Cherilyn Ireton said.
"Trust in journalism, already challenged, is being further undermined by fake news, misinformation and the financial pressures on newsrooms. It is clear that editors have to think and do things differently if they are to continue to produce quality journalism and rebuild trust."
At INM, Mr Rae (pictured) is Group Editor-in-Chief, overseeing all print and digital titles including Independent.ie, the Irish Independent, 'Sunday Independent', 'Sunday World' and 'The Herald'.
The World Editors Forum is the leading network globally for both print and digital editors of newspapers and news organisations.
It is built on a commitment to defend press freedom and promote editorial excellence.
