INM journalists scoop business awards
INDEPENDENT News and Media's position as the true home of important business news stories was cemented with a spate of prizes at yesterday's UCD Michael Smurfit Business Journalism Awards, sponsored by Eircom Wholesale.
INM special correspondent Paul Williams took home the Breaking Business News award for the explosive Anglo Tapes expose. "It was the scoop of the year," said the judges of the story that exposed damning phonecalls made by senior Anglo executives, calling it "the story with everything, and an impact far beyond business, into law and politics".
Irish Independent and Sunday Independent columnist Richard Curran, pictured with Mr Williams, was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award, a recognition given to a journalist who has enhanced the public's understanding of business.
Richard Curran, along with Tom Lyons, also took home the award for Specialist Business Reporting for their RTE programme 'Inside Irish Nationwide'.
Our reporter John Mulligan was also one of three people nominated in the Breaking News category -- an award which eventually went to colleague Paul Williams.
