INM Group Business Editor Dearbhail lands further top award

INM Group Business Editor Dearbhail McDonald has received the Mary Cummins Award for Women of Outstanding Achievement in Media.

The award was presented to the journalist, author and broadcaster last night at the fifth annual 'Women in Media' conference by former Tanaiste Mary Harney.

RTE Prime Time's political correspondent Katie Hannon also received a Special Merit Award at a gala dinner held at the Kilcooly Country House Hotel in Ballybunion.

Ms McDonald said she was "overwhelmed by the honour".

The conference included talks, workshops and social events and was attended by many well-known women from the print and broadcast media including Miriam O'Callaghan, Olivia O'Leary and Sarah Carey.

Other speakers and guests included Storyful founder Mark Little and INM Group Editor-in-Chief Stephen Rae.

Central themes and discussion topics included: 'The challenges women face returning to work after a period of leave'; 'Journalism under fire: the importance of truth in the new world order'; and 'Is the internet killing quality journalism and cheapening political debate?'.
