The chief executive was given a tour of the newsroom by INM Chairman Leslie Buckley, Group Editor-in-Chief Stephen Rae, INM CEO Robert Pitt and Irish Independent and Independent.ie Technology Editor Adrian Weckler.

During his visit to Independent House, Mr Cook was shown how the newsroom has transitioned into a content hub with digital at its heart after a major restructuring during the summer.

He saw how 'The Eye', INM's central newsdesk, operates a minute-by-minute flow of content to online and print.

Mr Cook also browsed through old photo albums brought to INM's Talbot Street offices from the former headquarters on Abbey Street.

Dating to between 1912 and 1922, they feature hundreds of photos of the country's fight for independence, including photos of the funeral of revolutionary leader Michael Collins.
