Five senior staff members will be leaving TV3 to join its new rival UTV Ireland.

Daragh Byrne, Joanne King, Paula McCarthy, David Townsend and Daragh O’Halloran will be joining the station later this summer.

UTV Ireland are scheduled to broadcast in January 2015.

The five TV3 staff members were among nine senior executive appointments announced by UTV Ireland this morning.

Daragh Byrne has been appointed commercial director – he is currently Director of Sales at TV3.

Joanne King, who manages the TV3 sales portfolio at Setanta Sports, has been appointed Direct Sales Manager for UTV.

Paula McCarthy has been announced as UTV’s Head of Sponsorship and Promotions. She has held the position of Head of Branded Content witin the TV3 group.

UTV’s Head of Legal and Compliance will be David McMunn. Prior to this appointment, Mr McMunn was an executive director of TV3 with responsibility for Government, regulatory and legal affairs.

Daragh O’Halloran is another recruit from TV3 – he has been appointed Head of Research and has held a similar position in TV3.

Deirdre Stokes joins UTV Ireland as Head of Sales Operations with responsibility for all sales operations including traffic and airtime management.

The other appointments include Áine Ní Chaoindealbháin (General Manager), Rowan O’Sullivan (Head of Programme Acquisitions), Deirdre Stokes (Head of Sales Operations) and David Townend (UK Sales).

Interestingly both Ms Ni Chaoindealbhain and Ms Stokes have previously worked in TV3.

Recruitment is going exceptionally well and we plan to announce more appointments in the coming weeks and months,” John McCann, Group Chief Executive, UTV Media plc said.
