Few surprises expected in RTE accounts

RTE's 2008 accounts are expected to be published in the coming weeks, after the broadcaster turned them over to the Government for their annual "review" in recent days.
The accounts are understood to include few surprises from the position outlined by RTE last October, when the broadcaster said advertising revenue would come in €25m below budget.
The station is understood to have achieved breakeven for the year after pushing through the first phase of cost cuts.
The report comes as RTE enters the final stages in identifying another €41m of cost cuts for 2009. Station executives now hope to have pinned down the savings before the end of June.
Some €27m of costs have already been eliminated after the broadcaster forecast a €68m shortfall in its finances last winter.
