The US firm supports payments for more than 5,100 businesses across the world, including two of Ireland's biggest banks.

Its new centre will provide further security for customers as well as increasing its capacity in the European market.

ACI has been in Limerick since 2006 and the new jobs will bring its overall headcount in the county to 150. The Nebraska-headquartered company also has a long-standing internship programme run in collaboration with the University of Limerick.

"As more organisations embrace private cloud solutions to gain a competitive edge, they're turning to ACI," said ACI president Phil Heasley. "Our dedicated cloud payments offerings provide the security, privacy and reliability that customers need and expect from mission-critical payment solutions."

The new centre was built and launched in "record time" according to ACI, which said it sped up the process to accommodate growing demand from the European, Middle East, and African markets.

The firm's Universal Payments service is the heart of its business and the centre will boost its ability to market it to European customers.

ACI executes around $14bn in payments and securities every day.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan said he "championed" electronic payments in Ireland.

"A further 50 jobs and increased physical infrastructure is testament to ACI's confidence in Limerick."
