WORKING THE SOCIAL MEDIA Creating An Online Networking Strategy

Paul O'Mahony

GETTING started with social media for your business can be quite daunting, given the range of social networks out there and all of the often-questionable "expert" advice!

What basic steps can your business take to set it up for success?

The first thing to do is to put together a very clear strategy on how you intend to use social media in your business.

Start by knowing your outcome. Agree with the "boss" or marketing team manager, what exactly it is you want to achieve through the use of social media.

Find out the goal: is it more traffic, better client engagement, more visibility, more leads -- or a combination of these and more?

Figure out who you plan to target and then piece together what networks you intend to use and the purpose each will fulfil.

Determine who exactly is going to manage these networks, how they will be trained and who will be responsible for this initiative. Ideally, try to get agreement from the "boss" to get personally involved in contributing.

Finally, for now, it is absolutely essential to get buy- in from the head of the company for this initiative from the outset, to optimise your chances of achieving amazing results!
