What they made of construction

THE compulsory Question 1 on the higher level Construction Studies paper may have caught some students out, according to teacher John O'Donovan.
It involved a timber-framed construction with a pre-fabricated, trussed roof, whereas students would be more used to a traditional block building and cut roof, he said.
But overall, Mr O'Donovan of the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI) and St Joseph's Secondary School, Doon Road, Ballybunion, Co Kerry, said it was a fair paper.
Liam Gorman of Yeats College described the paper as "a fair but challenging test with good scope for students to demonstrate their knowledge".
Overall, he said there was a wide variety of questions for the students to choose from.
Mr O'Donovan said he had no quibbles with ordinary level paper.
