IRELAND's spiralling unemployment rate must be addressed to save thousands of families from a life of poverty, it was warned last night.
Social justice campaigner, Sister Stanislaus Kennedy, said the country was currently overlooking the fact that it would face a protracted social crisis if it failed to act.
And she insisted it was critical for the Government, business, industry and the unions to worked together to develop a plan to keep people in jobs.
"If one in six of us are unemployed, then very few families in this country will be unaffected," she said. "For some families, the consequence will be poverty that will reverberate for generations."
