REPRESENTATIVES from the Richard Branson-owned airline Virgin will appear in front of the Oireactas Transport Committee to voice their opposition to the proposed IAG takeover of Aer Lingus.
Committee members yesterday agreed to invite Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA) to appear as talks over the proposed sale continue. Virgin has warned that a decision by the Government to sell its 25.1pc stake in Aer Lingus would result in increased fares and damage competition.
The firm has said it is bringing its concerns to the attention of the European Commission.
Committee member and Fine Gael TD Patrick O'Donovan said IAG should also be allowed to reappear at the meeting as a result of the decision to invite in Virgin.
