VHI boss tells board he’s stepping down

The chief executive of the VHI, Jimmy Tolan, has tendered his resignation to the board of the health insurer.

A statement from the company this afternoon announced that Mr Tolan had told the board of his intention to leave and return to the private sector.



Mr Tolan, who was previously the chief executive of fruit importer Fyffes, became chief executive of the VHI three years ago. VHI said his contract required him to give the board six months' notice.



VHI chairman Bernard Collins said :“It is with regret that the board of VHI Healthcare has accepted Jimmy’s resignation.”



He described Mr Tolan as “an outstanding CEO” who had “focused on both improving VHI customers’ healthcare outcomes and also ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation” .



The outgoing chief executive had “overseen a number of innovations including the adoption of a comprehensive wellness strategy for the years ahead,” Mr Collins said.
