UTV ends boardroom battles as two directors appointed

IT'S taken the guts of the year, but at last UTV looks to have put its boardroom battles behind it.
Yesterday's appointment of Andy Anson and Coline McConville as non-executive directors, which follow earlier signings of Stephen Kirkpatrick and Richard Huntingford as chairman, means the board is now back at a full complement almost exactly nine months after a row saw three directors leave.
In February, John McGuckian was ousted as chairman and promptly resigned from the board. TVC boss Shane Reihill and businessman Kevin Lagan immediately followed. At the time, interim chairman Helen Kirkpatrick said she hoped to appoint new directors by May, but that was never likely.
What will be interesting is whether Mr Reihill had some hand in approving at least one of the new directors.
He may have resigned from the board but his private equity group TVC remains the company's single biggest share- holder with an 18pc stake – more than enough to warrant a seat on the board.
